back to past or let me back to support

Not, really, that was the most fascinating time, full of fun, friendship in this company and it's pity that I fully realized this only after years I quitted. I miss all my friends I had when working there.
I see people leaving, I see new faces of people I'll never know, I sincerely happy when I can talk to people I'd been working with, now I even happy to talk to our customers :) I like going upstairs, looking and chatting to the people I worked in support with, joking, smiling, laughing, remembering :) Or do I just need to change something?
Yeah, you know, this is a feeling-in-one-moment. I'm a person who cant work with people anymore, but sometimes I need people around to be happy :) That's why right now I'm preparing training for supporters about linux kernel :-) I used to read trainings when working in support, and this is the only thing i can do now for them and make me remember the past times :). The only thing I feel I need to change now, is that I used just to talk, now I'm going to make audience talk to me, make suggestions, discuss topics. Will try to make fun for me and for them :)

Stupid mistakes

Hello, my far friend :)
Do you remember, we talked of funny mistakes, like when adding firewall rules, we forget to add own IP, to be able to access the system, like running 'reboot' command in the wrong terminal window?
So today, I've made the funniest the most stupid mistake I've ever done :)
I was adding some functionality to our program, that besides other things should remove certain directories. The names of these directories were partly hardcoded into array (like /etc/, /usr/lib/ ...), the last part of the directory name should be added later in code (forming names like /etc/OurCompamyName,/usr/lib/OurCompanyName and like ). Very easy task. The code was written, the program compiled, checked -- everything is working as expected, no problem. Then, I've made small changes in the program logic, recompiled and run it once again. The program run and looked like it was finished ok. Then I mentioned that the system behaves in rather strange way - it doesnt accept new connections via ssh, some commands do not work and complain for libraries... Can you imagine my wonder, when I discovered that /etc/, /usr/lib and some other directories no longer exist! :)))
I've simply forgotten to add the lines of code that add the last and the most important part to the directory names, that should be recursively deleted, so instead of removing /etc/OutCompanyName, the software removed /etc/ ...
Tomorrow, I'll have to reinstall the OS ...
For my luck it was the test system :)

My new device. Part2.

It was a quick game, but anyway, it was an interesting game.
I mean, today I've fixed HP server. It's funny, I'd to change just one line and it started to work more than 3 times faster :)
It's a kind of magic, when you have to spend hours to find the reason of a abnormal behavior, but fix takes just minutes :)
Such a nice feeling...
But... what makes me upset, now I have to return the device, but I liked it so much already:) Oh, If I could leave it :) I'd already have a good collection of a different hardware :) /* dreaming */ lol

My new device

I'm fond of computers, not really, I love them :-)
If you want to make me happy like a child, give me a new computer that runs Linux or that have problems with running Linux :)
Today looked like a usual work day without you (oh, if you ever know how much I miss you, how much I want to see you besides me), I was doing my regular tasks, until one of the managers brought me this:

this is HP Proliant DL360G5 - nice and noisy device which should bring me a lot of fun for the next few days :)
